Bearcreek Emergency Community Water Assistance Grant

Bearcreek Emergency Community Water Assistance Grant

Bearcreek, Montana

In response to severe damage sustained by the Town of Bearcreek’s primary water sources, Interstate Engineering secured a grant of $928,000 to facilitate the critical repair of the town’s spring boxes.

The town relies heavily on two spring box structures for its drinking water. The spring boxes were damaged during the Roberson Draw Fire, which scorched the surrounding area in 2021. The situation was further exacerbated by heavy rains in 2023, which caused severe flooding across Carbon County and further compromised the spring boxes’ integrity. The combined impact of these natural disasters, heavy rains over the Robertson Draw burn scar, caused intense flash-flood debris to flow down the extremely steep Bear Creek drainage. High-velocity debris impacts and hydraulic scour compromised both spring boxes to varying degrees, significantly reducing the available water supply volume and creating an acute contamination risk to the town’s water supply. This project aims to restore and permanently safeguard these vital structures, ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for the Town of Bearcreek.

Interstate Engineering is responsible for this critical infrastructure project’s overall engineering, project management, and funding assistance. Our team will thoroughly assess the spring boxes, develop a detailed engineering plan for their repair and reinforcement, and oversee the construction process to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget. Our local knowledge and experience in managing similar projects will be instrumental in delivering a solution that meets the long-term needs of the Bearcreek community.

This project represents a significant investment in the future of the Town of Bearcreek, ensuring that the town’s primary water source is protected and sustainable for years to come. By securing the necessary funding and providing expert engineering services, Interstate Engineering plays a crucial role in safeguarding the community’s access to safe drinking water in the aftermath of natural disasters. Repairing and reinforcing the spring boxes will restore their functionality and provide the community with the peace of mind that their water supply is resilient and reliable.
