Carbon County Bridge Replacements

Carbon County Bridge Replacements

Carbon County, Montana

In response to the catastrophic flooding event in Carbon County in June 2022, which resulted in the damage and destruction of multiple bridges, the county commissioned Interstate Engineering, the county’s engineer, to begin a critical bridge replacement project to restore essential infrastructure.

The project involved replacing three bridges and restoring the connection to the East Side road, which had become inaccessible due to the loss of these critical structures. The project was driven by a tight deadline imposed by FEMA funding, necessitating rapid design and construction.

Interstate Engineering was responsible for all three bridges’ comprehensive design and construction engineering activities. Given the site’s unstable post-flood conditions, traditional survey methods were impractical. To address this challenge, the team employed Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) solutions, which provided expedited survey data, enabling the design process to commence promptly despite the site’s instability.

This innovative approach allowed for the timely procurement of bridge decks, overcoming the supply chain issues that were prevalent during the project period. By leveraging UAS/drone technology, Interstate Engineering guaranteed that the design and construction phases proceeded without delay, ultimately meeting the stringent FEMA deadlines and restoring critical access to the east side road.

The successful completion of the Carbon County bridge replacement project underscores Interstate Engineering’s ability to adapt to challenging conditions, utilize advanced technologies, and deliver essential infrastructure projects within demanding timelines.
