Otter Tail Power Bridge Inspections
Fergus Falls, Minnesota
Otter Tail Power hired Interstate Engineering to provide bridge inspections and ratings of three timber bridges on the Hoot Lake Power Plant Campus.
The bridges consisted of two vehicle bridges and one railroad bridge. All three were timber beam bridges with timber piers and abutments founded on timber piling. Otter Tail Power intended to utilize these bridges for hauling debris as a part of the demolition of the Hoot Lake Power Plant and wanted to confirm that the bridges were in a condition to handle the heavy traffic required. As a part of the project, Interstate Engineering completed on-site bridge inspections reviewing superstructures, substructures, piling, and the river channel. Based on the measurements and observations made during the inspections, Interstate Engineering completed bridge ratings to determine the allowable live load of each bridge and provided an inspection and rating report to the owner.
