Since 2004, the field has continued to transition into an urban area. Private developers hired Interstate Engineering to provide survey and civil design services as part of the build of three apartment buildings, located on the south side of Pioneer Road. As the third apartment building was under construction, Interstate Engineering was designing the extension of the road to creating access to the building.

The extension design of Pioneer Road required Interstate Engineering to look beyond the present and towards future expansion as the community continues to grow. Along with the street extension, Interstate Engineering designed the extension of the sanitary sewer and water. The design included services to the new apartment building.

The City of Fergus Falls requested the design include a stormwater pond at the end of the project to control stormwater runoff and meet city ordinances. With the city owning the right-of-way to the south of the centerline and near the east end of the project site exclusively, the pond needed to fit in the city-owned area. Additionally, all stormwater was directed to the south side of the road, ensuring collection in the new pond.

After the design phase, the project was bid and awarded to Gladen Construction from Laporte, Minnesota. Construction was completed during the spring of 2018, in time for the street to be utilized for construction deliveries for the new apartment building. Interstate Engineering enjoyed being part of this development over the years and looks forward to assisting the City of Fergus Falls with the next step when the time comes.
