Williams County Route 11
Williams County, North Dakota
Provided the design for sliver widening, base and gravel stabilization, hot bituminous surfacing, signing, pavement markings, culvert replacements, approaches, and incidentals.
Interstate Engineering began working with the Williams County Highway Department in August of 2023 on a project encompassing 3.5 miles of County Road 11 (CR11) and a half mile of city road. Strong collaboration between stakeholders from the city, county, local schools, property owners, permitting authorities, and utility companies was vital to this project.
Many existing culverts crossing CR11 and several farmland approaches had deteriorated over time. The previously graveled CR11 had also deteriorated with thin segments resulting from heavy usage. This project included sliver widening, base and gravel stabilization, hot bituminous surfacing, signing, pavement markings, culvert replacements, approaches, and incidentals.
By moving a 55 mph speed zone and a 25 mph posted speed zone farther from town, providing ample time for larger vehicles entering Alamo from the north to reduce speeds, the county will enhance the safety of the road.
Paving the existing road will reduce the lifetime maintenance costs associated with upkeep on the deteriorated gravel. The project will provide landowners with more efficient culverts crossing their farmland approaches, including regrading the approaches to minimize snow-catches and areas of low conveyance due to settling around culverts.
This project is scheduled to be completed by October 2024 with a design cost of $160,000 and construction cost of $410,000.
